Room) Work Phone: (321) 242-6480 Email: Lynne Hawkins - (Hawkins.Lynne@brevardschools.org) ETCEP School ID#: 10183 Suntree Elementary School Earns Free Computer Technology Through Cartridge Recycling Students at Suntree Elementary School are learning a valuable lesson about recycling while earning money for the Science Inquiry program. They are participating in a program called ETCEP, otherwise known as Educational Technology and Conservation Exchange Program. ETCEP encourages schools to collect empty laser and inkjet cartridges as well as unneeded cell phones from their community. Laser and inkjet cartridges are found in printers, fax machines and desktop copiers at homes and businesses. Many people have old cell phones stuffed in drawers around the house. Empty cartridges and phones earn points, which are exchanged for over 5000 hardware and software technology products. For the community's convenience, cartridge drop-off sites have been set up at: Suntree Elementary School Main Office. ETCEP currently has over 20,000 educational institutions participating that are supported by thousands of businesses including banks, insurance agencies, hospitals, office supply stores, grocery stores, etc. Local companies interested in demonstrating their commitment to education and the environment can participate by saving cartridges and phones for our school. By adopting Suntree Elementary School, local businesses pledge their empty laser/inkjet cartridges and discarded cell phones to the school. There is never a cost involved in participating and free, prepaid shipping boxes are sent to return collected cartridges. Lynne Hawkins, F.U.N.Room teacher, remarks on how simple it is for the community to participate. "By simply saving empty cartridges and old phones and donating them to Suntree Elementary School, we help protect the environment and provide support for our Science Inquiry program. With over 300 million cartridges thrown away last year alone, it should be easy to earn thousands of dollars for our fo program." ETCEP is part of http://www.FundingFactory.com. The mission of the FundingFactory is to enhance educational opportunities for students, especially as they relate to classroom technology. Through an integrated online suite of safe, free and effective fundraising programs, FundingFactory will meet its goals of supplying computer technology to nationwide schools.
