Math Superstars

Information for Parents

Math Superstars is a voluntary program which helps students develop problem solving skills. Your child will need to print a worksheet from our school website each week and have one week to complete it. Some teachers allow students time during class to work on the worksheets, others have the students do the work at home. In either case, students are to complete all work by themselves! For our younger students, parents may read problems aloud. For all students, parents can explain mathematical terms or teach them how to use a ruler, compass, calculator or protractor as long as you are teaching a skill, not working on the actual problem.

Each problem is worth a certain number of ?stars.? The more difficult the problem, the more stars it is worth. Every worksheet contains problems of varying difficulty. Parent volunteers collect, grade and return worksheets to the classroom teachers. Upon completing 5, 10, or 15 worksheets, students will receive small rewards. At the end of the school year, those participants who turn in all 20 worksheets will receive an invitation to a pizza lunch!

Math Superstar worksheets are intended to be challenging. If the problems are too difficult, encourage your child to attempt the one or two star problems. Our goal is to have as many students as possible enjoy this program. We look forward to working with your children again this year!
