2008 Brevard Public Schools Food Drive

Who: Brevard Public Schools Employees and Students

What: A food drive to help those in need close to where we live and work

When: Monday, September 8th ? Friday, September 12th, 2008

Where: All Brevard Public Schools and Departments

Why: In 2006, it was reported that 35,000 people in Brevard County needed help with food. Most of those are families with children. In our schools we have more than 18,000 students participating in free/reduced lunch programs. These families often depend on the food provided by local food pantries to help them when their resources have been exhausted. The food pantries all report that the end of the summer and the weeks prior to Thanksgiving are times when they just don?t have food to share with these families in need.

With the current hard economic times faced by all of us, there are going to be more families - including our students ? who need help this year.

Often the families in need are faced with problems that they have no control over ? the loss of a job or a medical emergency could be all it takes for any of us to be put in this situation.

If each of us helps just a little bit, we can make a huge difference in the lives of our students and our neighbors.
